But this mirror was no ordinary mirror, and neither magic nor the truth can be so easily destroyed, and the shards of it were picked up by the wind and scattered to the ends of the earth, to enter the hearts and eyes of men and women and harden their hearts whenever it snows, to turn their hearts into ice.
But while none of them could be considered lucky, none were so cursed as the winter prince, whose heart and eyes were pierced mere moments after his birth. Unable to see anything but the hideous and ugly truth, the winter prince’s heart froze entirely solid, unable to feel even the gentle warmth of affection.
